Business Central 2025 Wave 1 (BC26.2) – A Game-Changer in Analysis Mode: Add Fields from Related Tables!

The 2025 Wave 1 release of Dynamics 365 Business Central introduces a significant enhancement to Analysis Mode: the ability to add fields from related tables. This feature is designed to provide users with deeper insights by enabling them to create more comprehensive data views across related data sources.

Technical Details:
1. Adding Fields from Related Tables:
– Users can add fields from related tables in two ways:
– From the context menu on an analysis mode tab: This inserts the fields as new columns at the end of the view.
– From the context menu on an analysis mode column: This places the fields as new columns to the right.
– When selecting a related table, the context menu displays the relationship, such as “via <relation>,” indicating how the tables are connected. For example, in a Customer list, fields from the Contact table can be added via the relation “Primary Contact No. := No.”

2. Field Selection Dialog:
– After choosing a related table, a dialog appears to select columns. This dialog shows the source table name and number, along with the fields available in the table.
– Users can only select fields that have already been added to one or more pages. The “Show available fields from” option allows users to select a page, which then populates the available table fields.
– Multiple fields can be added simultaneously using multiselect.

3. User-Defined Views:
– Views created in Analysis Mode are personal and reside in the tenant database. These views can include fields from related tables, enabling users to build and analyze data across multiple sources.

4. Visual Indicators:
– Columns added from related tables are visually distinguished by a prefix above the caption, indicating their origin. For example, a column from the Contact table might have a “Contact” prefix above the “E-Mail” caption.

These feature enhances the flexibility and depth of data analysis, making it easier for users to uncover meaningful patterns and trends. .
